Holidays in Cortaccia on the Wine Road
CortacciaThe wine villages Cortaccia, at a height of 333 m above sea level and Magrè at 226 m above sea level, lie on South Tyrol’s Wine Road, on a very sunny terrace above the Val d’Adige valley. In Cortaccia (Kurtatsch), the small peasant museum with a private collection of prehistoric findings and furnishings is worth visiting. Cortaccia was first mentioned in documents in the year 1191. Archaeological findings prove the settlement of this area as early as the Mesolithic Age. The spire of the Romanesque pirlgrimage church St. Vigilius was built around 1300. A further attraction is the lake of Favogna. At the tranquil shore of this lake stands the Romanesque little church San Leonardo. Here we also find the probably highest situated vineyards in Europe. Magrè (Margreid) is the last of the wine villages on the western side of the valley. It is a pretty village with manors, courts, arcades and oriels. The manor Entiklar is worth a visit, here the artist J. Tiefenbrunner developed a dream world made of grottos and water basins. |
