Holidays in the Val Sarentino valley
Val SarentinoThe Val Sarentino valley (Sarntal) is a very traditional valley, many people, especially women even wear the traditional costume on a weekday. Many traditional craftworks have been preserved, for example the quill embroidery, it consists of embroidering real work of arts on leather with cleft quills of peacocks. The holiday village Sarentino (Sarnthein) is the main resort of the valley and lies at 961 m above sea level. The neo-Romanesque parish church in the village centre is worth visiting, it has precious wall paintings of the expressionist Johann Peskoller. The wall paintings in the church St. Cyprian are much older, the fresco cycle of the end of the 14th century is the main work of art of the School of Bolzano. The Castle Reinegg is enthroned above the village, its stonework stems from the Romanesque and Gothic eras. Whereas the church St. Erasmus in Campolasta represents the rural Rococo. The Valdurna valley starts here, it has a beautiful lake, the Lake Valdurna, and is a great hiking area. The valleys around Riobianco and Pennes belong to the nicest hiking regions in the Val Sarentino valley. Reinswald is a modern family-friendly ski resort with one of the nicest toboggan/sledge runs in South Tyrol. |
