Alpe di Siusi - Sciliar
Holydays on the Alpe di Siusi
Alpe di SiusiAlpe di Siusi (Seiser Alm) at a height of 1.700 - 2.200 m above sea level is Europe’s largest high-altitude plateau. It is known as one of the most striking landscapes in the Italian Dolomites: Its extraordinary plant species that are in full bloom between the middle of June and the middle of July are unique, they comprise many rare plants, picturesque swamp meadows and vast pastures. The high plateau of over 50 km² is paradise for all nature lovers and offers endless hiking possibilities amid a wonderful mountain pasture. For a day trip you can easily renounce to your car because the Alpe di Siusi is largely car-free and made accessible by public transport through a cleverly devised mobility concept. From the valley station of the Alpe di Siusi aerial cableway in the southern outskirts of Siusi a modern and very well accessible gondola cableway takes the wanderers up to the Alpe di Siusi high plateau in about 15 minutes, where further bus lines connect the Siusi areas between the parking place and/or the mountain station of the aerial cableway in Compatsch and go further on to Saltria, situated further back. The only slightly ascending paths in the central area of Siusi also offer guests in wheelchairs the possibility to discover the Alpe di Siusi and organize a great day trip in the mountains of South Tyrol. In summer many hiking trails lead through the green pastures and mountain shelters offer the possibility for recreation. In winter the hillsides offer various slopes for skiing, snowboarding or sledging/tobogganing and great trails for snowshoeing hikes. |
