Holidays in Rodengo in Valle Isarco
RodengoThe beautiful holiday area Rodengo (Rodeneck) lies at a height of 886 m above sea level to the south of Rio Pusteria on a very sunny mountain terrace. From here you have a beautiful view over the high plateau of the central Val Isarco valley. The castle Rodengo is worth a visit, it is enthroned on the top of a cliff above the river Rienza. The castle was built around 1140 and converted into a fortified Renaissance castle in the 16th century. It has the earliest known Romantic frescos in Europe. The paintings represent the fight between the knight of king Arthur’s Round table and king Ascalon. Because of its position embedded in vast pastures, Rodengo is ideal for easy hikes in the surroundings or more difficult hikes to the Alpe di Rodengo high plateau or the surrounding summits. The village is also popular in winter, Alpe di Rodengo offers cross country ski runs and trails for snowshoeing hikes in the magnificent snow-covered winter landscape. |
