Holidays in Curon, Resia & San Valentino
Curon - Resia - San ValentinoThe holiday village Curon (Graun) lies at the entrance of the beautiful Valle Lunga valley, a good starting point for beautiful walks, at 1.500 m above sea level. All that is left of the old village of Curon, founded in the Roman era, is an old steeple rising up from the artificial lake Resia that was built in the year 1950. The old Curon and parts of the old village Resia (Reschen) sunk under the flood of water of the reservoir. At the beginning the area had two small natural lakes, the Resia lake and the Mittersee lake. The church steeple standing in the water has become a popular photo motif and a famous landmark. The new villages of Curon and Resia were established above the road at the shore of the new lake. Today the artificial lake Resia is worthwhile an excursion at any time of the year. In summer you can ride along the shore on a nice cycle track or take a walk there. In winter the ski resorts Belpiano, Malga di San Valentino, Maseben and on the Austrian side of the Resia pass, the ski resort Nauders offer skiers great ski slopes with a lot of snow and good cross country skiing runs. The hiking trails and snowshoeing trails in the Valle Lunga valley are exceptionally beautiful. The parish church of St. Catherine of the year 1950 is worth visiting in Curon, also the little church St. Anne, the small folklore museum and the little Romanesque church of Saint Nicholas in the Val di Roia valley. |
