Egna (Neumarkt) is situated on the east side of the Val d’Adige valley at 217 m above sea level.

The ruins of the Castle Caldivo tower above the village.
It has a nice historical centre with medieval low arcades and beautiful village squares.

Egna is the only locality in South Tyrol that does not have city right, but nevertheless has arcade houses.
In one of these houses the famous Tyrolean freedom fighter Andreas Hofer was kept prisoner in one of the cellars of these arcade houses on his way from the Val Passiria valley to the city of Mantova.

The museum for everyday culture is worth visiting, it exhibits objects of utility.

In the summers of every even year, Egna hosts the famous open air shows, the Unterländer Freilichtspiele.

On the hillsides above Egna lie the localities Montagna, Pinzano and Mazon, famous for their excellent wine.
